THE PUBLIC SPACES WITHIN 250 YONGE STREET were nearing the end of their lifecycle and in need of renovation to keep step with the ongoing building upgrades of other properties. Following the successful construction of major projects like the security desks and elevator corridors, next up were the pioneering renovations of The Eaton Centre washrooms whose prototype design would inform the design and construction for other washroom upgrades across other properties.
Unlike other cosmetic renovations, a significant amount of base building infrastructure like plumbing and wiring had to be stripped out before any work could be done. Several innovations were installed to reduce water and energy usage. Working with the consultants on upgrades to fit and finish, the refreshed washrooms were clad in natural stone while stainless steel accents brightened the spaces.
In collaboration with the client and design partners, we set and implemented a very tight timeline that would minimize the disruption and inconvenience and would help guide the future renovation of other washrooms.
Construction and renovation of these public washrooms entailed a lot of plumbing innovation and specialized electrical systems to run the automated equipment. Sure, challenges present themselves, but overcoming them is where we shine – and in doing so we’re able to bring those insights to the client’s next project.
